What is dIALYSIS
Dialysis is a medical treatment that filters waste and excess fluids from your blood when your kidneys are no longer able to do so. There are two types of dialysis: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
Hemodialysis involves the use of a machine to filter your blood, while peritoneal dialysis uses a special fluid that is placed into your abdomen to filter your blood.
What happens during the procedure?
During hemodialysis, you will be seated in a comfortable chair while your blood is filtered through the dialysis machine. During peritoneal dialysis, you will need to lie down while the dialysis solution is introduced into your abdomen. The length of the treatment will depend on the type of dialysis you are receiving, but hemodialysis typically lasts around four hours and peritoneal dialysis is usually done several times a day.
